The Mathematical Counting Wizard utilizes the patterning in Skip Counting to promote understanding Skip Counting to learn the multiplication facts.
For example, when Skip Counting by 4's: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20,
24, 28, 32, 36, 40,
44, 48, 52, 56, 60,
64, 68, 72, 76, 80, etc.
So if students understand this pattern when counting by 4, they are able to continue the pattern and work out for themselves what 7x4 is by counting by 4 seven times. This builds Mathematical Understanding and Number Sense in children, instead of the usual method of learning times tables as isolated facts.
It encourage development of student numeration, skip counting (and hence multiplication facts), place value and partitioning.
Students are provided with incentive to learn the first 20 counting numbers beginning with their 1’s and 2’s through to 11’s, 12’s, 15’s , 25's and 50's from zero, through awarding of certificates of proficiency recognizing increasing levels of difficulty.
